La Familia Restaurant Located at 1920 N. Main St., this restaurant was established in 1986 and has been serving up Tex-Mex food ever since. There is a daily special and you may select from a variety of enchiladas (beef, cheese, or chicken), or fajitas served on Fridays. These specials run from $5.99 to $7.99. If you’re super hungry try one of the Mexican dinner specials. The #1 includes an enchilada, chalupa, soft taco, ground beef taco, and tamale, with rice and beans for $11.99. Or try one of the house specials such as the Steak Ranchero.

Kids meals are $4.99 and consist of Mexican fare, chicken strips, or grilled cheese. select a tea or soft drink, or choose from a variety of imported and domestic beer. There are two dining area so if you’re planning a party this could be a good option. Don’t forget to grab a pecan praline on the way out the door. They are homemade!

Taqueria Jalisco Drive-through or eat in, which is highly suggested, because of the huge variety on the 8 page menu. Breakfast Plates start at $5.25. And breakfast tacos are only $1.75. Try the Enchilada Verde’s for $7.99 at lunch, or a T-bone Steak for $11.99. National and imported beer is $2.99 to complement your meal.

Each menu item shows a picture of the plate, so you know exactly what you’re ordering. And you can order by the number. While the interior is not fancy, there is plenty of room and the restaurant is clean with a great variety to please anyone Who likes Mexican style food.

Rusty Rooster Chicken and Fish This adorable little restaurant used to be a service station. Remodeled inside with the touches of a collector, roosters and chickens sit on the shelves watching over you while you eat. Order at the counter, or grab a table in this quaint little restaurant.

Enjoy a plate of chicken or fish starting at $4.99, or get one of the giant family meals (20 pieces for $18.99) and order your sides separately; fred pickles, crab balls, fried mushrooms, and a variety of others to choose from. Rosie’s Pizza Having won the Readers Choice award in 2013, Rosies is still known to have awesome pizza. Some of the locals say it’s the best pizza in town.

Inexpensive, $10.99 for a supreme with all the toppings. They also serve buffalo and pig wings with hot or mild barbecue sauces. Although there is no place to dine inside it’s a good place to grab and run.

Call ahead as there is not much seating to wait on your pizza.

The Palms, Close to the interstate and located next to the Catapillar company, The Palms restaurant is easy to find. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6 to 9 PM, and Sunday from 7 AM until 2 PM. The Palms is located at the V in the road at Court Street and West Kingsberry.

There is plenty of parking here. Featuring a different lunch special every day between the five and six dollar range it’s an expensive place to eat. There’s a great variety of entrées to choose from such as the enchilada plate with three enchiladas for only $6.99, or the Fajita plate with beef chicken or pork, onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, rice and beans, all for $7.79. They also have catfish, chicken strips, or chicken fried steak for folks who are not in the mood for Mexican. Great food at an inexpensive price.

Las Palmas A former Dairy Queen restaurant that has been converted to a Mexican food restaurant now, Las Palmas Cafe offers a different daily lunch special for $6.99 Mondays through Friday’s. Fajitas on Monday, Enchiladas on Tuesday, Porkchop plates on Wednesday, Tacos on Thursday, and Chalupa’s on Fridays, and other menu items are offered. Or if you can’t decide, try the Taco, Chalupa, Enchilada, Combination Plate for only $7.99.

The bench seats are hard but the food is good and inexpensive.

Giuseppes Italian Restaurant This is such a unique place, and even if you are not hungry you need to step inside the door and take a look. The ceilings are painted like sky, and there is a cathedral at the top of the stairs. You truly feel like you are in Italy. This restaurant is very unique and and beautifully painted with murals. It was an unexpected surprise because it is next-door to a service station. This is true Italian food, and the owner is Italian and has been serving up wonderful dishes for many years.

Lunch specials are offered Monday through Friday from 11 AM until 3 PM. Such favorites as lasagna, cannelloni, chicken parmesan, chicken alfredo, and manicotti, are starting at $6.95. The entrées come with spaghetti and include a variety of veal, ribeye, chicken, or shrimp. The special for the day when I was there was lobster ravioli served with garlic bread. Pizzas are also available from 12 inches to 18 inches with a variety of toppings for $8.99 For the small, and$16.99 for the large.

When you are near I 10 at the Seguin exit you’ve got to stop in and check out the Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant. It’s very easy to find and painted bright yellow, located at 3003 North Highway 123 bypass. 830-549-5417

El Ranchito This is the beautiful Mexican restaurant with a lovely outdoor patio area and full bar in a separate room, equipped with jukebox and fireplace. It would be a great place to host a party. Very clean and nicely decorated, El Ranchito would also be a great place to take someone you would like to impress, for a business meeting or a couples night out. Choose from appetizers, soups and salads, tacos, items from the grill, specialty dinners, or Tex-Mex items to order by number; there’s a wonderful variety to choose from. Try the Fajitas for two for $20.95 which includes beef or chicken, grilled onions, bell peppers, rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and shredded cheese.

Don’t want to share? Order a single plate for $11.95. Kids can have hot dogs, grilled cheese, hamburgers, or enchiladas as well starting at $4.95. There’s also sour cream enchiladas, a favorite, served with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and chicken topped with Ranchero sauce, for $9.95.

El Olvido Hacienda Open Monday through Saturday from 5:30 AM until 9:30 PM, Sunday 5:30 AM until 2 PM, David, the owner, will be happy to attend to your needs for parties during business hours in his party room, or after hours by special arrangement. Alex’s Tacos Alex’s tacos is a quirky little place in an old white building at 1214 N. Guadalupe Street. Some of the menu items are hand painted on the wall outside the building. If you walk around to the side there is a takeout window and a full menu near the sliding glass window where you can run up to grab a bite to take home. You can also enjoy sitting under the tree in the parking lot at the picnic table with the kids. The outdoor window will remind you of a food truck at the fair. If you’re looking for more of a restaurant atmosphere, there are half a dozen tables to choose from, (the entrance can be found on the other side of the building).

The days special is $6.50 and includes a sweet tea or lemonade. Try the enchilada plate, crispy tacos, porkchop ranchero, or quesadillas. There are over 50 items on the menu to choose from with about half of them containing eggs. Whether you like scrambled, over easy, or eggs cooked with dried beef and jalapeños, potatoes chili or onions, they can serve them up in a variety of styles. You may choose from a regular size or a small plate for the person who is not quite as hungry. And there are kids bowls for only $2.00!

Hildago’s Restaurant has several locations, including 2020 S. Bryant Boulevard, 1315 N. Chadbourne, and 3108 Sherwood Way. They’ve been serving up American and Mexican food for a long time, and are proud to prepare your dish just the way you like it. While not a fancy place inside there is original artwork and paintings of the restaurant in bygone years.

The tables are quite with plastic table covers. The menu offers specials for children and senior citizens including  $4.75 for a grilled cheese sandwich with fries, up to $6.25 for the burrito served with rice and beans. American food consists of chicken fried steak, chicken fingers, ribeye steak, steak and shrimp, a fish dinner, and a diet chicken plate with salad and toasted bread. Prices range from $7.50 to $13.

For Mexican fare, there are two pages in the menu for a large variety to choose from, including a Deluxe Dinner with one cheese enchilada, one beef enchilada, one taco, one chili rilano, beans, rice, and guacamole for $9.00. Or check out Armandos Special with carne asada, beans, rice, hot jalapeño, and a slice of avocado on the side for $10.25.

While the menu states “American and Mexican” fare, the restaurant primarily serves Mexican food. It has award-winning fajitas, and numerous Mexican favorites such as the Mexican Village, three Copitas filled with beans, guacamole, and beef or chicken with rice on the side, for $8.39.

There are a variety of steaks including Steak Ranchero, a spicy ribeye steak topped with famous Ranchero sauce, cheese enchilada, and flour or corn tortillas.

The Don Juan special, Carne Asada with grilled jalapeños, avocado slices, and flour or corn tortillas.
