Johnny Gringos All American Restaurant Open from Sunday through Saturday 11 AM to 10 PM, Gringos is in the same building as a former Churches Chicken. While the restaurant still has some resemblances, it has totally been remodeled to have a diner/ pub atmosphere with tin walls, nostalgic neon beer lights, and flat screens on almost every wall. The tables are high with bar seats. It is a nice unexpected surprise when you enter, as you would not expect this in the same building as a convenience store and gas station/laundry mat. Happy hour is from 6:30 PM to 10:00 pm and with wings at $.69, it looks like a fun place to drop by in the evening. Of course they serve food all day long, and you order at the counter off the menu board when you walk in the door. The specialties consist of a variety of hotdogs and Mexican Margarita Candy.

From north to south, Gringos has you covered. You can get a New Yorker Dog with grilled onions and sour kraut, or the Chicago with mustard, pickles, relish, and tomatoes, or the Mexican Hotdog with pico de gallo, chili, cheese, mayo, and mustard. And there is even the Breakfast Hotdog , that surprisingly comes with an egg and hot sauce. Only in Uvalde! Not brave enough for that? Then try the chicken wings or have a burger. Its a great place to catch up with some friends or watch a game.

Guys, you can throw your laundry in the wash in the laundry mat next-door, grab a fun supper and a beer with the boys, and go back and take care of your business when the commercials are on during the game.

The Milky Way specializes in variety of hamburgers including one with caramelized onions and blue cheese dressing. Burgers are $6.10. Best of all though are the cream and fruit pies. Select one from the glass case. They also serve at breakfast early and you can choose from a variety of omelettes or pancakes.

There are half a dozen tables inside or use the drive-through window for pick up.

Open 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Thursday, serving up burgers and fries and old-fashioned shakes. On Fridays, however, it’s steak and seafood night. And Saturdays they reopen from 11 to 2 for lunch.

Jackies Tacos This is a great place to stop by and order Barbacoa by the pound to take home, or one of Jackie’s favorites, such as the quesadilla or deluxe taco plate. The special of the day is under six dollars and includes a drink. Moderately priced, this little restaurant has a special each day posted on the counter top and hand written with a sharpie.

The food is also made fresh when you order. No menus here, just order of the signboard. There’s only 5 tables so it can get busy at the noon hour.

The Chocolate Monkey Open 12 noon to 6 PM, the Chocolate Monkey offers delectable sweet treats handmade to perfection. Select homemade fudge or candied apples covered in sprinkles, ice cream with a variety of sauces, or one of the many other sweet treats from the glass case. Haystacks, Moose Crunch, Caramel Clusters and numerous other chocolate delights overwhelm your senses when you come in the door. Three Parrots is a fun quirky place to go. If you dine inside or on the patio, it’s a fun spot to swing by for a drink after work, or dinner. Each table has its own surfing/ocean theme of cartoon characters. They are very creative and it’s fun just to look at all the table designs.

Start with an appetizer of Fire Roasted Salsa and Chips, or Chicken Tortilla Soup, and move on up to the tacos, burritos, or specialty plates. The Baja Taco plate is a favorite and consists of any two tacos with any two sides with your choice of meat, chipotle , mojo sauce, mixed cheeses, feta cheese, lettuce, and pico de gallo. Or forget the plate, and just order Gnarly Burrito loaded with black beans and covered in queso.
