The Palms, Close to the interstate and located next to the Catapillar company, The Palms restaurant is easy to find. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6 to 9 PM, and Sunday from 7 AM until 2 PM. The Palms is located at the V in the road at Court Street and West Kingsberry.

There is plenty of parking here. Featuring a different lunch special every day between the five and six dollar range it’s an expensive place to eat. There’s a great variety of entrées to choose from such as the enchilada plate with three enchiladas for only $6.99, or the Fajita plate with beef chicken or pork, onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, rice and beans, all for $7.79. They also have catfish, chicken strips, or chicken fried steak for folks who are not in the mood for Mexican. Great food at an inexpensive price.

Las Palmas A former Dairy Queen restaurant that has been converted to a Mexican food restaurant now, Las Palmas Cafe offers a different daily lunch special for $6.99 Mondays through Friday’s. Fajitas on Monday, Enchiladas on Tuesday, Porkchop plates on Wednesday, Tacos on Thursday, and Chalupa’s on Fridays, and other menu items are offered. Or if you can’t decide, try the Taco, Chalupa, Enchilada, Combination Plate for only $7.99.

The bench seats are hard but the food is good and inexpensive.

Las Mananitas A great place if you are hungry! The place is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6 AM until 2 PM. The restaurant is in a nondescript yellow building approximately 1 mile off the I 10 highway. Tacos are their specialty however there are lunch specials available every day for $7.99. They include a bottomless giant glass of tea. Try the combination plate or the enchilada plate. The food is good and is served on large platter style plates. You may even want to split a lunch or take home half of your meal for supper, as they serve a big portion.

While the building is not fancy and a little bit off the beaten path, it is easily accessible to Highway 10 and there’s plenty a room for parking. It’s a great place to stop if you’re wanting a good meal and are needing to get off the highway for a break.

Jackies Tacos This is a great place to stop by and order Barbacoa by the pound to take home, or one of Jackie’s favorites, such as the quesadilla or deluxe taco plate. The special of the day is under six dollars and includes a drink. Moderately priced, this little restaurant has a special each day posted on the counter top and hand written with a sharpie.

The food is also made fresh when you order. No menus here, just order of the signboard. There’s only 5 tables so it can get busy at the noon hour.

Giuseppes Italian Restaurant This is such a unique place, and even if you are not hungry you need to step inside the door and take a look. The ceilings are painted like sky, and there is a cathedral at the top of the stairs. You truly feel like you are in Italy. This restaurant is very unique and and beautifully painted with murals. It was an unexpected surprise because it is next-door to a service station. This is true Italian food, and the owner is Italian and has been serving up wonderful dishes for many years.

Lunch specials are offered Monday through Friday from 11 AM until 3 PM. Such favorites as lasagna, cannelloni, chicken parmesan, chicken alfredo, and manicotti, are starting at $6.95. The entrées come with spaghetti and include a variety of veal, ribeye, chicken, or shrimp. The special for the day when I was there was lobster ravioli served with garlic bread. Pizzas are also available from 12 inches to 18 inches with a variety of toppings for $8.99 For the small, and$16.99 for the large.

When you are near I 10 at the Seguin exit you’ve got to stop in and check out the Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant. It’s very easy to find and painted bright yellow, located at 3003 North Highway 123 bypass. 830-549-5417

El Ranchito This is the beautiful Mexican restaurant with a lovely outdoor patio area and full bar in a separate room, equipped with jukebox and fireplace. It would be a great place to host a party. Very clean and nicely decorated, El Ranchito would also be a great place to take someone you would like to impress, for a business meeting or a couples night out. Choose from appetizers, soups and salads, tacos, items from the grill, specialty dinners, or Tex-Mex items to order by number; there’s a wonderful variety to choose from. Try the Fajitas for two for $20.95 which includes beef or chicken, grilled onions, bell peppers, rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and shredded cheese.

Don’t want to share? Order a single plate for $11.95. Kids can have hot dogs, grilled cheese, hamburgers, or enchiladas as well starting at $4.95. There’s also sour cream enchiladas, a favorite, served with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and chicken topped with Ranchero sauce, for $9.95.

El Olvido Hacienda Open Monday through Saturday from 5:30 AM until 9:30 PM, Sunday 5:30 AM until 2 PM, David, the owner, will be happy to attend to your needs for parties during business hours in his party room, or after hours by special arrangement. The menu is Tex-Mex and includes a Jumbo Plate with a huge T-bone steak, grilled shrimp, and steamed vegetables with beans. One can’t go wrong for $14. Split it with a friend, or try a smaller size plate off the lunch and dinner menu starting at $5.50. Not in the mood for Mexican?

Try the clubhouse sandwich for $7.50 with fries, or the grilled chicken served with fries and a small salad for $6.79.

The Chocolate Monkey Open 12 noon to 6 PM, the Chocolate Monkey offers delectable sweet treats handmade to perfection. Select homemade fudge or candied apples covered in sprinkles, ice cream with a variety of sauces, or one of the many other sweet treats from the glass case. Haystacks, Moose Crunch, Caramel Clusters and numerous other chocolate delights overwhelm your senses when you come in the door. Grab some Frito pie, nachos, or corn in a cup if you’re not in the mood for something so sweet. Share a banana split with someone. It’s a fun place to go but a hard place to make a decision! Alex’s Tacos Alex’s tacos is a quirky little place in an old white building at 1214 N. Guadalupe Street. Some of the menu items are hand painted on the wall outside the building. If you walk around to the side there is a takeout window and a full menu near the sliding glass window where you can run up to grab a bite to take home. You can also enjoy sitting under the tree in the parking lot at the picnic table with the kids. The outdoor window will remind you of a food truck at the fair. If you’re looking for more of a restaurant atmosphere, there are half a dozen tables to choose from, (the entrance can be found on the other side of the building).

The days special is $6.50 and includes a sweet tea or lemonade. Try the enchilada plate, crispy tacos, porkchop ranchero, or quesadillas. There are over 50 items on the menu to choose from with about half of them containing eggs. Whether you like scrambled, over easy, or eggs cooked with dried beef and jalapeños, potatoes chili or onions, they can serve them up in a variety of styles. You may choose from a regular size or a small plate for the person who is not quite as hungry. And there are kids bowls for only $2.00!
