BBQ in Big Spring

It’s Big Spring, not Big Springs. So many folks get that wrong. You have two choices in Big Spring for delicious Bar-B-Q. (No dissing Dickie’s Barbecue Pit, but we are staying local on this road trip. However, if these other two places are closed, it might do in a pinch.

Al’s & Son Bar-B-Q

A local haunt for many years. Al is usually hanging around visiting with guests. Its a family hometown favorite. You’ll find Al’s easily under his famous wagon wheel sign, it is just a hop skip and a jump from I-20 on historic Gregg Street.

Big John’s Feed Lot by Brenda

Don’t forget about Big John’s. Brend is the local restaurateur, shes owned places in town such as “The Hilltop” and “Brenda’s BBQ & More”. She loves two things, her people, and her food!

BBQ in Midland

Head out West from Big Spring on Interstate 20. Midland is about 40 minutes away. Take a stop in Stanton and eat lunch at an old-time pharmacy counter, you’ll never regret making a pit stop at Stanton Drug!

KD’s Bar-B-Q

A favorite of the Roughneck crowd, KD’s is easy to find right off of I-20. So it’s a perfect place to begin in Midland, which is also known as the “Tall City”.

Mac’s Bar-B-Q

Originally started in Brady, Texas. Owner Operator Wesley Webb has created something real special in Midland. Mac’s has been a superstar throughout this COVID epidemic. They opened their doors to sell baking supplies to locals when the stores ran out. They were one of the only places around to carry “essentials” such as yeast.

Up In Smoke BBQ & Co

Junior Urias, got his start doing catering for the oil field. He’s been winning BBQ competitions for many years. He’s been featured on the BBQ Pitmasters show. He has made a successful business out of West Texas BBQ, between his cooking classes, catering, running his brick and mortar, and selling a line of spices. He is a busy guy! His Barbecue Restaurant is only open from 11-2 on Thursday, 11-2 and 6-8 on Friday, and 11-2 on Saturday. He does catering during the other days of the week.

Once your done in Midland head out to Odessa, as long as you head West out of town, you will eventually be in Odessa.

Ed & Toms Bar-B-Que

They are located on 317 E Murphy. Ed & Tom’s serves up delicious fare day in day out. They are open every day except for Sunday and Monday. Find their menu here on Odessamenus.com.

Bar-B-Q Barn

Try out this Odessa favorite. Frequented by tourists and locals. They are known for delicious West Texas-style BBQ. Find their menu here.

Monahans is our next stop, just 32 minutes to the West on I-20. Take a break and visit the Monahans Sandhills State Park or the Million Barrel Museum in Monahans.

Pappy’s BBQ

One of my of my favorite West Texas Restaurants. I used to frequent it back in my Ward County Court House Landman days. They used to have apple dumplings simmering by the cash register. So so good. Visit Ruralfork.com for the menu.

Worth the drive. Kermit is a nice little town to visit. Great BBQ!

Pecos to El Paso – The Long Drive

If you are still reading this, and you’ve eaten BBQ in Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, Monahans, Kermit, and Pecos. Its probably time to loosen the pants, and book yourself a room. We suggest the Railhead Man Camp, or maybe the Staybridge Suites Pecos.
